WEATHERFORD, Okla. — A powerful community tradition returns this spring as the 40th annual Relay for Life of Custer-Beckham Counties takes place Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. inside the SWOSU Wellness Center. The event brings together survivors, caregivers, families, and supporters for an evening of remembrance, celebration, and determination in the fight against cancer.

Hosted in support of the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a chance for the community to unite and take action for every life touched by cancer.

“This event is an opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against every cancer,” organizers shared.

Last year’s Relay raised an impressive $20,038.60, and organizers hope to top that total in 2025. Local businesses, clubs, and organizations are encouraged to join the cause by forming teams, donating, or volunteering.

Those interested in participating or forming a group can contact student coordinator Vivian Shipley at shipleyv@swosu.student.edu.

In addition to team participation, this year’s event will continue the cherished tradition of honoring cancer survivors with a special recognition during the evening. Survivors who would like to be included are invited to reach out and attend as honored guests.

Registration is open online at the official Relay for Life event page.
